The other day in lockdown I decided to mix things up. The kids were was soooo over home schooling and were resisting it to their best efforts. Instead of trying to convince them to do it, I sympathized with them that home schooling sucks and I get that they'd rather be at school. Then I realized that we needed to shift this funky energy, so I suggested a game on the trampoline. All three kids jumped in the tramp with all of the soft balls we could find. I put on some fun music and the kids had to try and get rid of all the balls from the tramp before I could throw them back in. Let's just say they kicked my butt 3 times in a row!;) I was slightly out numbered to my defense! Haha!
We laughed our butts off for a good half hour, got our heart rates up and shifted that funky energy that was about to travel through the house. On that same day I set a challenge with a friend. The challenge was to see who could get the most amount of hoops from the free point line on a basketball court. My friend isn't in my 5k's and we are both extremely competitive (total understatement!) It was so much fun going to the local basketball court and shooting some hoops. I lost this challenge too and even despite not winning I was having a ball! Sometimes hard for such competitive souls! Haha! My son also decided to challenge one of his friends to the same basketball challenge too! All in all it was a super fun day, a good laugh and we got lots of exercise out in this Melbourne Spring like weather! I share this with you because I know how easy it can be to fall into a slump and a hole of groundhog day while we are going in and out of lockdowns. But it can also be that simple to mix it up and create some fun in our routines! Despite having to still do home school that day it actually felt like we were on a holiday. A holiday from our usual routines was enough to shift our energy and mindsets. So, what's feeling stagnant in your routine? What fun activities or challenges can you add into your days? Feel free to reply and share with me in the comments below. Sending you love and hugs, Steph xx
